Members of LEOO among the winners of the educational competitions of the IGNIS mission.
On September 24, 2025, the “Wielki Final” of the educational competitions related to Poland’s space mission IGNIS took place at the Ministry of Development and Technology in Warsaw. The event brought together nearly 150 laureates of competitions organized by the Polish Space Agency in cooperation with the Ministry of Development and Technology, the European Space Agency, and scientific partners.
Success of Students from Biała Podlaska
🏅Student of Secondary School No.2 by the name of Emilia Plater in Biała Podlaska, Anna Stasiuk, became number one in competition “Z Góry Widać Więcej”, while Michał Bednarek and Jakub Kordaczuk received distinctions.
In addition, a sporting event called “Dogonić Astronautę” was held involving students, teachers, and local residents. They aimed to cover a distance of 400 km. In total, we covered 11,289 km – more than 28 times the distance between the ISS and Earth.
This is a great success that shows students from all around Poland can succeed in nationwide educational initiatives.
Space education the main subject of the mission.
The IGNIS mission had a special educational side. Poland as a first country in the world decided to spend as much as 20% of astronaut’s time on ISS on educating youth. Thanks to that, young Poles could observe the work of Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, and take an active part in the schedule of the mission by coming up with ideas for experiments that would be done by the astronaut on the International Space Station.
Inspiration from the Polish astronaut.
During the event, Dr. Sławosz Uznański Wiśniewski emphasized the importance of dreams and pursuing goals:
“The most important thing is to take the first step, and don’t stop. Thanks to you, I was able to perform my work in orbit, carrying out, among other things, your experiments. I hope that many of you will one day be part of the Polish space sector.”
Success of Anna, Jakub, and Michał is a proof that educational programs, like the ones organized as a part of IGNIS, are a big opportunity for youth from all around Poland to grow and develop themselves in multiple fields of science. Their achievements are a source of pride for the whole Biała Podlaska.
The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Biała Podlaska Michał Litwiniuk, who thanked our astronaut for his contribution to Polish science and gifted him a T-shirt of the Polish Cycling Capital.
