Łódź Full of Stars – LEOO Meets the Cosmic Future

On the 1st of July 2025, a part of the Local Earth Observation Observatory members together with group second superviser Sławomir Filipiuk went on a trip to Łódź in order to take a part in ‘Inflight call EDU Łódź’ event which took place in EC1 the next day. The event was one of the agenda of the IGNIS mission.

The first attraction waiting for the students were soldering classes, where with a help of specialized equipment, they assembled a telegraph key which resembled a satellite. The gadget was smilar to the one the astronaut had taken with himself to the space station. After the course, the students went to the conference room, where the main part of the event was held. At the beginning, a few special guests gave theirspeeches: a representative of POLSA Anna Bukiewicz-Szul, the manager of EC1 Błażej Model and the mayor of Łódź Małgorzata Moskwa-Wodnicka.

At 10 am, a lecture about the IGNIS took place. The representative of POLSA explained the point of the mission and goals related to medicine, biology, space technology, engineering and AI development studies. After some preparations, it was time for the most important part of the event’s program – a video call with dr. Sławosz Uznański – Wiśniewski, the Pole who flew into space on the 25th of June this year. On the call, the astronaut carried out experiments recommended by the competition winners. The experiments were: the movement of gyroscope in space, the water’s behaviour in near-zero gravity environment and the frequency of a ball oscillating on a spring after release from a strech. After the call, the students who commissioned those experiments carried them out again in the Earth’s environment.

Leaving the conference room, The LEOO members shared their feelings about the video call with TV and radio journalists. They also had an opportunity to meet members of other space – related student research circles. They had a chance to meet and talk with Sławosz’s wife – Aleksandra Uznańska – Wiśniewska who was a special guest at the event. The students asked her questions, which she answered gladly. After that, she shook hands with each LEOO members. When the interviews and meetings were over, the students could freely explore the EC1 building and its atttractions. The group returned safe and sound and what is more, with a vast number of new ideas for their future careers.
